Message from Daley Barber-Allen

To all parents, carers and staff

I hope that you are healthy and well, and that you have all had a lovely time during the Christmas holiday period.

I know that the news and constant changes in Government guidance can sometimes cause anxiety and confusion, so following the latest measures announced this evening, I just wanted to make you aware of how this affects Thomas Bewick School.

All specialist school settings have been asked to plan for full-time on-site provision for all pupils from the start of term, so we are very much looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils in all age groups (Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post 16) back to school on Monday 4th January as originally planned.

All pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan are classed as ‘vulnerable’ and so the vulnerable definition applies to all of our pupils in all age groups.

You may have read in the media or heard during televised Government briefings that schools with secondary aged pupils are being asked to support with asymptomatic testing of some pupils and staff. We will be looking at a potential approach to this in more detail when school reopens on 4th January and will be in touch with you about our plans. We will not be carrying out any testing without prior consent from parents and carers, so please do not worry about this.

We will of course be in touch as, when or if things change, but I hope that this information gives you some reassurance following the latest Government announcements earlier today.

Take care, and enjoy the last few days of the holiday.

Best wishes to all of you for the New Year ahead, once it arrives on Friday. See you in 2021.
